Foods to Forage in August

There are so many fruit, veg and other foods available to pick in the hedgerows, woods and paths near where we live. Foraging has never been so popular so I’ve put a guide together about what to pick, how to pick safely and how to use what you pick. Foraging actually means to search widely for provisions but it is essentially looking for wild food.

Top tips

You’ve probably seen blackberries ready to pick when you’ve been out and about as they grow everywhere in rural and urban areas but have you noticed any other of the foods that you can pick in August? Within 100 metres of my house, I can pick hazelnuts, cherries, elderberries, damsons, blackberries, apples and crab apples. These are all growing down a lane. It’s amazing what you can find when you know what to look for.
